I have once again turned my life on its head. Thanks to a partnership between Orkney Historic Boat Society, Historic Enviroment Scotland and Ian Richardson Boatbuilder I have embarked on a two year boatbuilding fellowship. I have left my home on Orkney and traveled 700 miles south to Lowestoft to train at the International Boatbuilding Training College. I’m attending the college for a year, undertaking their 47 week boatbuilding course. Then it’s back up to Orkney to continue training under the expertise of Ian Richardson at his workshop in Stromness.

I have started this blog as a way to keep everyone updated on my progress throughout this fellowship. This blog may also be useful to anyone considering a career in boatbuilding and give an idea of the training given at the college.
